About

Created by politics and sustained by men. In the spring of 1915 Member of Parliament, Lt Col. Samuel Simpson Sharpe received the approval to raise a battalion of men from his riding of Ontario County. Throughout the summer, winter and following spring he travelled to town and villages across Central Ontario gathering men to join his 116th Canadian Infantry Battalion. In time men from cities, town and farms from across Ontario…London, Brampton, Orillia, Midland and Minden, Toronto and across the United States joined the battalion, served, fought and died for King and Country proudly wearing the pin of the 116th. This site commemorates their service and sacrifice….and hopefully breathes some life into men who are only known from their name being carved into a slab of marble. This site is dedicated to them….the men of the 116th Canadian Infantry Battalion .
